The structurally diverse rocky shores along the northern coast of the state of São Paulo, Brazil, support a varied fauna and provide refuges for many organisms. Some of these environments allow for extensive microhabitats, among them the sand reefs formed by the polychaete Phragmatopoma lapidosa, which occupy much of this area. The beauty of the landscape attracts large numbers of tourists, who...

Mangrove oysters Crassostrea rhizophorae were sampled monthly in the estuary of Jaguaribe River, on the east coast of Ceará State, Brazil, between August, 2000 and December, 2001, making up 170 individuals. The water temperature varied from 26 to 30 degrees C and salinity from 21 to 42. The animals' size ranged from 3.4 to 7.2 cm height. Macroscopical and histopathological analyses were carried...
متن کاملA new species of Cymadusa Savigny, 1816 (Crustacea: Amphipoda: Ampithoidae) from northeastern Brazil
A new species of the amphipod family Ampithoidae Stebbing, 1899 is described from the northeastern Brazilian waters. The new described taxon is grouped in the genus Cymadusa Savigny, 1816, since it presents all the diagnostic characteristics of the genus. The examined material was collected by scuba diving in the Rocas Atoll, off Rio Grande do Norte state coast, Camamu Bay and Todos os Santos B...

Specimens of Hippa adactyla (Crustacea, Anomura, Hippidae) were collected from several coasts of Indonesia (Sumatera, Java, Bali-Lombok and Sulawesi). This finding represents the first record of this species in Indonesia and confirms its presence in the Indian Ocean and in the Wallacea region. Its systematic and morphological characteristics are described, and its distribution in Indonesia is p...

50 m 50 m This paper reports the occurrence of xenomas in the mangrove oyster Crassostrea rhizophorae (Guilding, 1828) gills. Xenomas are formed when intracellular parasites accumulate within host cells, causing hypertrophy of the cell and its nucleus. In fish, the xenomas are commonly caused by microsporidians (Matos et al., 2003), but in the oyster Crassostrea virginica (Gmelin) they are caus...
